Surrender To The Undertow
Inner Circle Fast Track - Success Synergy with Dr. "G"
I was swimming at the beach one day and noticed a sign that warned people of the dangerous undertow in that area. Not knowing what an undertow was, I looked it up. It is actually a current that is caused by the outflow of a wave from the shore. The danger of an undertow is that most people panic as they feel themselves being forcibly dragged away from the safety of land. They attempt to fight it by swimming to shore. This is like running on a treadmill, and it only delays the inevitable process. Finally, the individual becomes exhausted and usually drowns. On the other hand, if the swimmer is able to surrender to the undertow, they can stay afloat and be carried out a bit, but then have the energy to swim back in (or catch the next wave.)

For You Or To You

“There is nothing in this world good or bad but thinking makes it so.” -William Shakespeare
Something struck me as I was watching the Olympics recently. It was the power of mind-set over the performance and longevity of the athletes. There were many examples of the favorite underdogs achieving Olympic glory. The difference that I saw was the mental edge that the winners had. In most cases, there was a sense of joyful excitement coupled with total focus on the task at hand. -

I recently had the opportunity to be involved in a friend’s wedding. He is a pastor who married a pastor’s daughter (and there were three other pastors in the wedding party). As expected, there were a lot of sermons that weekend. One of the sermons struck me as a great message for us “Fast-trackers” whether we are thinking about investing, business or our personal lives. It was based on King Solomon, regarded by many to be the wisest man who ever lived. Here are the action steps I got from this talk... -

Ah, the New Year. A fresh start, a chance to do things differently, a time to establish goals and set direction for the next 12 months. So why not set your new course IN a new way as well? What I am talking about is doing what Gandhi suggested and “be the change you want to see”. Here is how:

Mirror Mirror

Did you ever notice how some people tend to look like their pets? Or how people from the same family tend to have similar mannerisms? I have two kids, a 7-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. If I’m just listening to them, I have a hard time telling them apart. The younger one has learned so much from his older sister that their speech, attitudes and behaviors are almost identical. Of course, that is to be expected. This is exactly how kids learn - by copying a more advanced model.

Stephen Covey (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) asks, “Have you ever climbed the ladder of success only to find that it is leaning against the wrong wall?” I have personally worked with too many people for whom this was the case. The problem was that many of them discovered the this very late in the process and had already lost much in their lives that they valued. Things like their health, relationships and spiritual fulfillment. I believe that true success and ultimate wealth include vitality in all areas of life -- not just having lots of money or recognition.
